Scarlett Dark was not one to be messed with, especially not when she hadn't slept in forty two hours. The red head scowled and sat down at a table, her long pale fingers unfolded a letter from Mu-n Sessou. 'Dear Serpente clan member, I would like to let you know that I have assigned you a partner for missions. His name is Kai Shin and I believe that your partnership could be an asset to the clan. You will meet him at 4:00 pm in the club called Oxygen in Aprirei Row. Yours, Mu-n Sessou.' She re-read it for the twentieth time that day and her anger rose at two words out of the entire paragraph: his and him.
If this was a joke then Scarlett was definately not laughing, Mu-n didn't really know that she loathed men. Did she? But Mu-n was all for sadistic mind games. Scar folded the letter back up and tucked some of her wavy red hair behind one ear. Her golden yellow eyes flashed around the night club and analysed everything around her. Her burgundy jacket and dark blue jeans were the tell tale look that she usually wore.
She ordered a bottle of water and the man at the bar looked at her like she was insane. Scar then delivered a peircing glare and he realised who he was dealing with. He gave her the water and she gave him a tip. He smiled gratefully at her and she nodded once before returning to her table. At this moment she saw the doors open, her watch beeped twice, 4 pm...right on schedule.

Kai walked down the somewhat crowded streets feeling a sense of anxiety. He hadn’t felt like this since his first solo mission. Of course, it wasn’t a big thing now that he thought of it, but back then it was a do or die feeling. He replayed the voice of his daily messenger from the mistress.
“Kai, I have a message from the mistress. She has orders for you to meet up with your new partner. Her name is Scarlett Dark. Meet her at 4:00 pm in the club called Oxygen in Aprirei Row. To find her just asked the bartender if they have seen any redhead Irritated Redhead… Also sir, she said something about having fun and don’t screw around too much.”
He couldn’t even fathom what the mistress had planned for him. “That sadist.” he thought to himself as he continued his way towards the nightclub. He didn’t like nightclubs nor did he like drinking. Then again he didn’t like many things “fun”. What bothered him more was the “Irritated Redhead”. Kai wasn’t accustomed to working with others, not for a long time that is. He just prayed he would make it through with this new partner.
Once he reached the entrance the sad excuse for a guard asked for ID. It must have been the blue scarf. Kai’s blue scarf always made people wonder if he was off for wearing it year round. But, he had his reasons for doing so and they are far from crazy either. Kai promptly pulled his ID and he was granted access to his personal forbidden zone. As he entered the room filled with people laughing and yelling. But, he didn’t let this bother him. He was mainly focused on sending echo pulse all over the room. One of the major draw backs to being blind, you couldn’t tell who was who. But, he had learned to get use to it by now. He went up to what seems like a counter and the assumed bartender behind it.
“What can I get you?” asked the bartender as he was cleaning a beer glass.
“I’m looking for someone. Have you seen an irritated redhead by any chance have you?” he whispered to him calmly. Of course his senses didn’t allow him to see his face clearly but he could tell the bartender was making the “what the heck” face. He then pointed over to the supposed Scarlett. Kai gave a slight nod in appreciation for his help. He then walked over to the supposedly new partner. “A please to meet you, my name is Kai Shi. It seems we will be working together for our next assignment. I am looking forward to this,” he said softly. First impressions where always a big thing for Kai. Even though people first see him as a softy it was better then being other things. Besides Kai had the power to fight back if needed.
He angles his head down at her as if he was looking at her directly. He learned from past experience that it was rude not look at a person directly. But, because of his “past tragedy”, he couldn’t even shift his eyeballs. He knew he shouldn’t complain about this though, the healers did an excellent job making him look as normal as possible. He just hoped that it was for the best to be blind.

“What can I get you?” The bartender asked the person that had just walked in and she smirked for a moment before the young man asked something in a low voice. The bartender pointed directly at her and she froze, schooling her expression to be blank. The blue haired young man gave him a nod and turned to walk towards her table. She let her golden eyes run over every part of him, this was proably her partner. But why did she suddenly need to be paired up with anyone? Scarlett felt capable on her own!
She felt the strong desire to cross her arms, swear like a sailor and stamp her foot like a petulant child. But this would not fix the problem. “A please to meet you, my name is Kai Shi. It seems we will be working together for our next assignment. I am looking forward to this,” He said softly and she exhailed slowly, taking her time.
He angled his head down and she blinked in realisation, he couldn't see! That was why he had to ask where she was! She felt like facepalming but held it in. "Greetings, I would say that it is a pleasure to meet you. But I am not really one for telling untruths, forgive me. My name is Scarlett Dark...but you already knew that, didn't you?" She said in a toneless voice, this being a frightening thing because her voice was husky and sweet sounding.
"I hope you don't mind me being blunt...but I do not work well with partners. But do sit down , since you've come all the way here." She said with a soft laugh before taking a sip of water. "I do apologise beforehand if I say something to upset you, I am not the most sociable creature in Verada...or the most well rested either." She then fell silent before glancing around, men and women alike were stealing envious looks at them. Her fangs were filling up with venom, this was irritating as it happened every two to three days.
She touched the tip of her tongue to the end of one fang and smirked as the venom stayed within the fang. If it were to trickle out then she would have to find a bin to spit the bright purple liquid into. Scar let her eyes return to look at the male before her and she suddenly realised that this was her new game to play. Mu-n was smart, but not smart enough to realise that Scarlett was bored surely? She would give this partnetship thing a chance, just to see how far she could go without him flipping out on her.

Kai knew his new partner didn’t seem to like the idea of being pared together for an assignment. He didn’t either so it made things even, he suppose. When Kai was asked to sit down he was relieved that Scarlett had manners. That was a rare thing in the Serpente world. As he was going to sit down a couple ran out of the bar screaming. In doing so they pushed Kai’s chair to the side making him plot to the floor. Of course he saw it coming, but he was too lazy to do anything about it.
He could hear the laughter in the background. “Have they no respect for the blind” he thought to himself as he got up from the floor slowly. He pulled the chair closer allowing him to finally sit. “I understand that you may not like me as a partner. But, it’s our orders and we must abide by them. I’m sure we can learn a lot from each other.” He then pulled a letter out from his white and blue coat. The mistress was quite clever. She gave him a letter with the instruction of their mission together. But, since he couldn’t read, being blind and all, he would need to have his partner read. So she basically made it in a way that they both needed to present to know the mission.
“This is a letter about what our next mission will be,” he said sliding the letter towards Scarlett. There is a short pause before Kai continued “Do you mind if you read the letter to me. But, make sure the others in this bar do not hear.” He didn’t want to go right out and say “Hey, I’m blind read it to me.” That would be to blunt. Something Kai wasn’t.
(OOC: It would be longer, but I need to get off this laptop and get in the car and go on my trip. Also PM the quotes you want in your sig)

Scarlett watched the couple knock the chair out from under where Kai was about to sit. Instead he sat on the floor and most of the room laughed. Scarlett let him get up on his own, no sense in pandering to his every need. He pulled the chair closer and sat down before speaking. “I understand that you may not like me as a partner. But, it’s our orders and we must abide by them. I’m sure we can learn a lot from each other.” He then pulled the letter from his jacket and she was about to take it when a woman came into the nightclub.
Scarlett recognised her immediately and stiffened out of instinct. The woman scanned the crowd and Scarlett watched the woman's eyed rivet on her. The woman made her way closer to them and stopped next to Scarlett's chair. Scarlett smiled brightly and the woman moved on to another table. “This is a letter about what our next mission will be. Do you mind if you read the letter to me. But, make sure the others in this bar do not hear.” Scarlett took the letter from Kai and moved her chair around the tabe to be closer to him.
This would be easier on both of them and she could read it in a softer voice as well. 'Dear Scarlett and Kai, Your first assignment is to capture and interogate a human by the name of Dean Mull. He is a fast runner and highly suspicious of anyone, so you must treat this mission accordingly. This sentence is for Scarlett only, please do not kill your partner or your target in the process because blood would not look good on either of them. Yours, Mu-n Sessou.' She finished reading it and smirked, their leader always knew about Scarlett's tendencies to kill her targets while trying to capture them. That's why she was always sent on assassination assignments.
"The first assignment is to capture and interrogate a human named Dean Mull. He is a fast runner and is highly suspicious of anyone, so she urges each of us to treat the assignment accordingly. I'm also not allowed to kill the target during capture." Scarlett whispered quietly in his ear before sipping her water slowly. She felt like she was being told what to do and she didn't like it one bit.
A few whispers caught her attention, they were the voices of men. "What do you think of the blonde that just walked in? Too thin? I thought so too. What about the redhead next to the blind boy?" She then listened no futher, their bantering and comments were of no significance to her. Then someone put their hand on her shoulder and she twitched, fighting off the urge to kill them. "Hey little lady, why don't you come and hang out with us?" One of the men from across the nightclub had actually come over here.
He seemed to be waiting for something, so she turned her head to him and smiled for a second. Then she switched to a piercing glare and hesitated before getting up and he finally got the message. Scarlett returned to sitting down and the older man scurried away like a rat. She did not play fair, she did not play nice. Piss her off you get stabbed with ice.

Kai contemplated their new target, Dean Mull. The name sounded quite familiar to him. But, he couldn’t quite put his finger on it just yet. Besides, he had another thing to worry about, her killing the target before they can capture him. “So I take it that you are customed to use destructive methods?” he asked calmly. Kai had always preferred a more subtle approach when going on the offensive.
He then heard a few guys. Judging by their deep voices and “sense” he received from his pulses, he figured they must be older men as well. Kai gave a small sigh. He disapproved of any such interactions like these between to people. Especially on a subject as trivial as love. Just then the men’s laughter ended and before he knew it they scurried away. “Blind boy?” asked Kai in an unimpressed tone. Seriously, couldn’t they have at least though of something more “intelligent” to label him? It was then that he began to wonder if his new partner felt uncomfortable to working with a person who couldn’t use his sense of sight.
“Scarlett, even though I’m blind, I assure you that it is not a hindrance to or mission,” he said after all of the guys left. He then began to wonder where could this Dean Mull be found. Scarlett didn’t mention anything about a place he was last seen at or a meeting time. Also, she didn’t leae any clues on where to find this guy either.
“Is there a place that you suggest we find this character? The mistress didn’t leave any instructions or clues on tracking him down.” The more he thought of possible places he figured if he was a suspicious coward, he would spend his time at home. If Dean Mull were on the run, he would most likely find a temporary home until he could find a more permanent residence. “Perhaps the Palm Motel in Down Town? I hear that place attracts people on the run whether it is a minor or major problem that requires them to hide,” he suggested softly.
It was the he began to sense something odd. Well not really odd, more like interesting. The guys from before have regrouped outside. Most likely waiting for Scarlett and Kai to leave. But, physical violence was forbidden in this district. If one were to be caught, the penalty would be death. Then again that wouldn’t stop a few people he knew from the Serpente Clan. “Well, It appears we have a few strays, Do you mind if we go for a walk.”
True, Kai is a “preferred” pacifist. But, if these guys do try to “attack”, Kai wouldn’t mind beating them to a pulp or worse. Still trying to keep things subtle he wanted this fight, more like a massacre, to occur in an isolated area in this district or another district. All they had to do was wait for them to attack. He got from his chair quietly and made his way to the front door. His pulse senses indicated that they were a few blocks off from the place and heading towards them. But, he didn’t want to tell Scarlett this just yet. He feared tht if he did, then she may get to excited.

“So I take it that you are customed to use destructive methods?” He asked calmly and she shrugged one shoulder casually. "You could say it that way, I'm the one that they send when an assssination is needed. When others fail, I usually don't...I've only come close to dying once." She said simply and took yet another sip of water. Not like it was any of his business that she had almost been killed by her boyfriend.
“Blind boy?” He asked distastefully and she snorted in supressed laughter. "Was that the best they could do? I would have at least called you something unusual...like, Smurf." She said in a scornful tone and rolled her eyes. “Scarlett, even though I’m blind, I assure you that it is not a hindrance to our mission,” He said and she laughed softly, that's what he thought she was pissed off about? The fact that he was blind? Nuh-uh, that statement was incorrect. "It that why you think I'm in a bad mood? You can't assume anything around me. It makes an ass out of you and me. I haven't been sleeping, that's why I'm annoyed." She said with a scowl.
Scar did not like spilling her guts to a virtual stranger, a male stranger at that. “Is there a place that you suggest we find this character? The mistress didn’t leave any instructions or clues on tracking him down.” Kai asked and she thought for a minute before gasping suddenly. Their target often came into bars that she worked in. "He comes into a bar that I work at once every Wednesday of the week." She whispered in his ear before getting up from her seat.
“Perhaps the Palm Motel in Down Town? I hear that place attracts people on the run whether it is a minor or major problem that requires them to hide,” He suggested softly and she shrugged. "Yeah, maybe we go and pay him a visit there?" She asked before looking around and had a strange feeling in her gut.
“Well, It appears we have a few strays, Do you mind if we go for a walk.” Kai said and got up, going close to the door. She followed, realising that the group of older men had disappeared from the nightclub. He seemed to be doing something and she walked up behind him and scowled. "Keeping secrets from people that are supposed to be your partners isn't a good first impression Smurf." Scar hissed in an irritated fashion before tugging on his sleeve and leading him outside. He had wanted to go for a walk right?

“A Smurf? I haven’t heard that word in a long time,” said Kai. He preferred not to be called it, but he didn’t really mind as long as it doesn’t turn into a big thing with the others. It was odd, it never occurred to him till now that he would never see a Smurf ever again or anything else for that matter.
“The bar huh? Does, he know that you work there?” asked Kai. If this Dean Mull knew she worked there and was a Serpente, it could be both a good thing and a bad thing. But, he figured it best to be caution on this.
Kai laughed inside at here irritation towards secrets. “I’m the kind that can keep a secret. But, don’t worry you will find out soon enough.” He said as he continued walking from the bar to a more isolated hallway. He wanted to make sure there wasn’t any witnesses. Kai’s pulses told him that were only a small group of people near by and they were they “play” targets. Kai stopped walking when they were in a dark hallway. Kai knew it was nighttime, that or the sun wasn’t out. This alleyway was dark and surrounded by a misty smoke most likely made by heaters on the side. Maybe that was why no one comes here in this small section of the district.
It was those guys again from before, this time somewhat drunk. “Yo! It’s the chick again!” said any of them with a hint of slurring in his voice. Then there were a few more guys from the bar appearing from the mist. Kai then turned his head to Scarlett. “Do you wish to take care of this or me?” he asked. He already had a feeling how Scarlett would respond. But, it was still a bit to rude not to ask.

“The bar huh? Does, he know that you work there?” Kai asked and Scar shrugged, how would she know? She was only one of the waitresses that occasionally filled in for one of the dancing girls. "Yes I work in a bar. Where do you work?" She growled, where and how she worked was an extremely touchy subject with the redhead. She followed him regardless though, the fact that he wasn't telling her something bothered her.
“I’m the kind that can keep a secret. But, don’t worry you will find out soon enough.” He said and kept walking to a more secluded place in the nightclub. "I bet I can keep secrets better than you ever could. For example, no one knows when I became Serpente for sure...one day I was just there permanently." She said with a smirk and stopped when he did.
The alley was kind of cliche, but she didn't care about it at that particular moment. “Yo! It’s the chick again!” A man slurred and she scowled, a metallic flash betrayed one of the men. He was carrying a knife. The question that she was asked next was pretty silly. “Do you wish to take care of this or me?” Kai asked and she gave him her hooded jacket in reply. "I'll fix this, I got us into it because of what I am." She said and turned around before facing the slightly tipsy men.
Scarlett put on a sweet and innocent look and a man came edging towards her. "Hello there little lady, say...how tall are you?" He drawled and she laughed gently. "I'm roughly 5 foot 6." She answered with a small smile before he came within striking distance. Scarlett had up until this moment been making little needle like objects out of sharp slivers of clear ice. She tugged the hair tie out of her blood red locks and shook out the wavy lengths.
She moved swiftly and the man fell, a small sliver of ice had sliced straight through his jugular. Her fingers tossed three more at the drunken men and two collapsed. Only three more men to go. She decided to get up close and personal for these. After three punches one fell, riddled with tiny pinprics from the ice shards. Another had his throat crushed and the last she stopped at. "Hello Ms Dark, has my son married you yet? He shouldn't be fooling around at his age." The middle aged man asked in a voice that suggested he wasn't quite with it.
"That was a long time before now Mr Lucas, your son died two years ago." She said bluntly and realisation flickered in the dark brown depths of his eyes. "Yes, I remember now child, forgive me. I did not mean to make you relive that night. Well, I shall be on my way." He said and proceeded to the other end of the alley and turned the corner. Scarlett took her jacket from Kai and zipped it up, hiding the blood spattered white singlet top underneath. "We're going to my place, I need to clean up. Then we can start planning how to catch Dean Mull." She said before swallowing thickly and letting out a deep breath.

When Scarlett returned from here little “practice” Kai was still a bit shocked. “That was a bit mess don’t you think. Especially for a district like this were violence is not something you want to be part of,” lectured Kai. He didn’t want to sound like he was treating her like a kid or anything. He just wanted to make sure that his new partner knew that sometimes even if it takes longer; cleaner is the way to go. Kai then noticed she allowed one to escape. “You know, as your partner I would be saying it’s not right to allow one to get away. That it’s unprofessional and messy. It leaves loose ends that would most likely come back to haunt us but you already know that, don’t you,” he said not bothering to go after the man. By now it would cause more trouble to go after him then just to leave him be.
“I may sound harsh but, it’s better to leave your personal feelings out of things like this. So I’ll ask you this, why did you allow him to live? He was within range of your attack” Kai wanted to know so he could keep a note of this in the future. Mostly, if such thing were to happen when it really counted, that he will finish it for her. Still, he found something odd about Scarlett. She puts up an attitude, but there is something behind it. Something Kai did and yet didn’t want to know about.
He had learned so much from just “watching” what happened. He was able to learn a little bit about her abilities. He was somewhat uneasy about not telling her much about himself. But, he figured talk can be for later when they are in a more secure location then this one.
Kai gave a small smile still not turning his head to see the bodies. “We better get moving to you place, It would be better if we disappear from here. The smell of blood will attract people soon enough. You lead I will follow from behind,” he said calmly. It felt a bit odd to follow a person. But, it couldn’t be helped. He didn’t know where she lived.

Scarlett froze as he spoke. “That was a bit mess don’t you think. Especially for a district like this were violence is not something you want to be part of,” He lectured her and she bared her fangs in agitation and fury. "As I said before, I'm used to killing people as cleanly or as messily as I want." She hissed through clenched teeth before attempting to walk away with him following.
“You know, as your partner I would be saying it’s not right to allow one to get away. That it’s unprofessional and messy. It leaves loose ends that would most likely come back to haunt us but you already know that, don’t you,” He said and she laughed humourlessly before turning her golden eyes to him. But she didn't say anything and thought about killing him, just for a moment. The next thing he did drove her into a blind rage, excusing the pun.
“I may sound harsh but, it’s better to leave your personal feelings out of things like this. So I’ll ask you this, why did you allow him to live? He was within range of your attack.” He said and she turned on the heel of one of her sneakers and grabbed the collar of his jacket, pulling his head down to her height. "You can have your secrets but let me have mine. Broach the topic again and I will be biting you on the neck. On second thought, I'll make sure that Mu-n see's your body." She snarled in his ear before releasing him swiftly and beginning to walk away.
“We better get moving to you place, It would be better if we disappear from here. The smell of blood will attract people soon enough. You lead I will follow from behind,” He said and began following her. She tied up her hair and winced, one of the men had gotten her with the knife. Nothing serious, just a slash to her upper righ arm. The redhead left the alleyway with the Smurf following close behind.

Kai noticed the even higher then average flare about her response to why didn’t he kill the man. This made Kai somewhat curious about his new partner. But, he figured he better drop the subject for now and save it for later; although the threat was somewhat funny. “I hate to break it to you. But, I’m a hard person to kill,” Kai said calmly. The thought of them fighting each other was somewhat interesting to him.
But, he knew before any of that could be done they needed t get to work. He also began to notice some bleeding on her side. He then placed his hand over he area of the bleeding to apply pressure. It looked as if he was warping his right arm around her. “Don’t be alarmed, I just don’t want you bleeding while we walk. We also still need to look natural in public,” he said trying to convince her not to freak. So they walked to where the ice monster sleeps.
