RYT2:I can't help but laugh at the comments. Someone used google translator. When was this? I think i've seen this before but i thought it was a ripoff of totally spies or the fairy/ pixie cartoon( the one that was on saturday night cartoons). I didn't know stan the man was doing this. T:This movie, which is really awesome and classic Lee, came in March of 2007. Also, he made another movie called the Condor. This movie came out at about the same time. They were going to make more but they never did. It's such a shame, Stan Lee always makes pretty good work. Even when he's making really stupid stuff like Striperella, it still turns out pretty decently. And I just found out that Striperella; was animated by Nickelodeon.

Me:I just said that 'anime' is a common term used by fans to refer to Japanese animation. I could care less if the word came from France, Italy, Iraq, or South Africa... it doesn't change the fact that people use it in the way that they do. 1. How does using the term "anime" make fun of how Japanese speak? It's a French term, right? If anything, the FRENCH should be insulted. Even then, English is really just a giant gumbo full of thousands of words derived from several languages (both current and dead), so seeing a word being used differently outside its native country or time period isn't exactly 'uncommon.'
Also, in saying this, you're implying that people who are fans of Japanese animation are in reality making fun of them by saying "anime"... you wanna tell me how that makes sense?
2. Trying to "rectify" this so-called "ignorance" is like trying to restore the word "fagen" to its proper meaning... it just ain't gonna happen, so get over it. People will use whatever word they want to refer to Japanese animation, so don't force your opinion on others like you're the 'better man.'
3. You know, you could actually be using your knowledge in more productive ways... you know, BESIDES raging at innocent YouTubers who commented on a video you came across. You're better than that... at least, I THINK you are...

Me:I think I understand where the confusion lies... please excuse my attempts to divide the sounds.
I don't know a single fan of anime who pronounces it 'an-i-mee' (unless they were reading it for the first time, I guess); they, like me, pronounce it 'an-i-may.'
The only people who use 'an-i-mee' are those who really are racially-insensitive (where they would find this pronunciation is beyond me), those who heard someone else say it wrong, or those who read it wrong (I mean, if you compare English to other languages, the pronunciation of the word isn't exactly 100% obvious).
Also, I think it's worthy to note that the Japanese use the term 'anime' too, only it refers to animations in general, and they pronounce it like this: 'ah-nee-may.'
I don't know what kind of people you hang around with, but I can assure you that, no matter how THEY pronounce 'anime', it is NOT how most fans say it. Don't judge all of America's character on a single person's pronunciation of a word... it's just as bad as having all your knowledge on a subject come from a Wikipedia entry... o.o

Actually, you know what's really funny? You originally told me you were mad about the fact that 'anime' insulted Japanese, yet you just used the term 'Jap'.... I know it's an unnecessary thing to bring up, but I couldn't help but be amused...
I will agree with your last statement TO AN EXTENT. Most of the anime that come to America are the good ones (or at least the highest-rated ones), so the rest of them (the bad ones, the lowest-rated ones, the inappropriate ones, etc) never make it to the states. Also, come on: even YOU have to admit that more than 3% of all anime is good... o.o

And no, the Japanese cartoons that come to America are popular. That does not mean they are good. See also: Naruto, Bleach, Inuyasha, Death Note, I don't even know what it's called but the one with the giant robots that had a kid with a shiny eye, Gundam Wing. Hell, this list could go on for days but I think you get the point. Popularity does not equate excellence especially when they're only popular for being Japanese.
I'm tired of these morons eating up anything that Japan comes out with just because they're Japanese. You have the morons saying America makes no good cartoons but they refuse to watch any American cartoons to find out if that is a true statement. The morons who say that Japan is so technologically advanced when all they do is just apply technologies America has had for decades in different ways. (ASIMO meet Elektro, he beat you by a few years. about 70 if you want to get down to the nitty gritty) The people that claim Japan has a greater sense of fashion when in reality they just have American fashions, but a decade behind.
Me:You DO realize we're in America, not France, right? I get it, anime (with an accent, mind you... >.>) is used in France as a verb, but here, in the US, it is used as a noun. That's the thing about language: it CHANGES, it ADAPTS. Latin died a long time ago, but it lives on in the languages of today, even if the original/intended meanings of its words no longer apply. Granted, French isn't dead, but that doesn't mean it can't influence new words and meanings in other countries. I mean, just look at the English language... it has been influenced by so many OTHER languages, it's not even funny. If your mind is so narrow that you can't accept the fact that words can change without warning, then quite frankly, I've wasted my time trying to convince you otherwise.
I never said anime was perfect... I never said it was excellent... I never even denounced cartoons... I didn't even bring up the subject to begin with... but oh well. (By the way, you're thinking of Code Geass). While I am a fan of anime, I also simply adore cartoons. Animaniacs, Looney Tunes, Carmen Sandiego, Scooby-Doo, Family Guy... just to name a few of my favorites. I also like imported animations that AREN'T Japanese, such as Code Lyoko (France) and W.I.T.C.H. (Italy, I think). Again, I think you're confusing fans with otakus... THOSE are the people who have the Japanese flag flapping in the wind on their flagpoles... o.o
Cartoons AND anime have their good points and bad, so trying to decide which one is better is kind of like deciding which star in the night sky is your favorite and why,,, XD
