Note: In this discussion, the term 'American' will be defined as 'a citizen of the United States of America.'
Food for Thought #2:
America isn't a perfect country; I think anyone (including Americans) can admit to that. We have good points and bad ones; we have good and bad people; we also have our good times and our bad. When these bad times come around, who is typically the first person to blamed for it? Why, the President, of course!
(I'm going to go ahead and say this: I absolutely hate modern politics. I understand why we have politics, but that doesn't mean I like the methods politicians use nowadays to sway the people. For this reason, I would like to keep politics in general out of these threads. With this in mind, let's continue.)
Why do Americans decide to blame the President whenever something goes wrong in America? First of all, they elected him to represent us, so if anything, they should be blaming themselves when things go wrong. Second, the President doesn't have complete control over everything, so why do they assume this in times of trouble? Lastly, the President cannot see the future, so assuming that he knows the outcome of all his actions would be, well, stupid.
Why do Americans blame the President of all people? Do people just like to point fingers? Do they feel more comfortable when all their problems stem from a single source? Do they simply refuse to believe that something could possibly be their own fault? Are people just ignorant? Do you guys have any better ideas?
Discuss.
