"You ever get that feeling that someone was upset or that they aren't themselves or whatever?" He asked, messing up his hair. "Well, that's the same feeling that you're feeding me." She didn't seem to hide anything, if she was then she was covering it perfectly. Raijin was looking like an idiot, accusing her of being a Serpente clan member and not having any evidence to prove it. He hated to be wrong, he had to prove that she was apart of the Serpente. If not for arresting her, for himself.
He rolled his eyes. What she ws saying was basically a defense for the Serpente, in Raijin's eyes. If it didn't talk down the Serpente down, then it didn't cut it for him. "The wall and the Serpente are the problem, the Aquila are the solution. Knowing the Serpente, they would be hungry for power and try to recruit more ryougans to join their ranks and completely wipe out the human race." He declared. He turned his head and sighed. This girl was playing him like a violin, ready to cut his strings.
"A crime is a crime, those who commit crimes are criminals." Raijin stuttered. Did he really believe that? That had to be the pretend cop in him talking. He choked back on his words and had to take a while to realize what he said. He backed up and sighed, thinking about the pressure that was being placed on him while working with the police. A teen trained by hardcore police trying to bring life to a dying city from powered-up metahumans ready to kill placed an impact on Raijin. Things were tough, maybe he needed a break. He looked at Selena, seeing her crack a smile. This was funny to her? Damn...
"You do whatever you like with your wings Selena, I would hate to have to clip them." He muttered. Raijin walked the ocean, the water coming up to his ankles. He had to think, what could he do to nab this girl? That lure was his ace in the hole. She gave him her two cents and he was left in awe, not knowing what to do next.
"I-but... what?" He stammered. He huffed and puffed, and threw a little kid tempertantrum. Kicking sand and water, throwing pebbles in the ocean, and adding a couple of curses in the mix also. He wanted to scream, he had nothing against her. As long as she didn't droop over her words, she was clean. Serpente or not, she had to have some way on saying that she was affiliated with them.
"Yeah, I guess so," Raijin said, plopping down on the sand away from the water. He bit his bottom lip to the point where it almost broke. He closed his eyes and started to think again. She knew his affiliation, name, and power and he knew tidbits about her. He tried to remember the name, all the while thinking of a new line of dialouge that he could try to trap her in.
"I'm sorry Selena, but seeing a ryougan that's unfamiliar to me got me on end. With the running around for the cops and all, this night was hectic. Forgive me, yes?" He asked with a cheesy smile.
This isn't over, not by a longshot. he thought

Really? I'm sorry. It seems to be upsetting you. Selena was winning this battle, without so much as a struggle. He was giving up, and she was still ready to bounce back whatever words he gave her. She laughed in her head a bit, about how easy it was. She couldn't show it though, this battle wasn't over. And the wrong move now would cost her, a lot.
Eliminating the Serpente won't solve anything. The Serpente, like the Aquila, are here because of the wall. If either side completly eliminated the other, it would be useless. The Serpente and Aquila's ideals would live on. And no amount of violence will destroy them. Her words were correct. This time, she gave no indication of her alliance to the Serpente. She included both clans this time. Still no proof of who she truly was.
Selena looked at him. She was ready to play a bit more with his words.Okay, so we've already established that the Serpente are criminals because they kill. But if an Aquila kills a Serpente, does that make them a criminal too? It's just an endless cycle of pointless violence in my opinion. Yet another lie. She knew what she did to humans had to be done, if not her the Serpente, then at least for her and her brother's survival. Her entire life was spent helping Zane steal to make a better life. She didn't want to admit to it though. Those days weren't her proudest.
Selena heard his words, and began to wonder a bit. IS he going to get violent? I might need to be a bit more careful... She looked curiously at him. Clip them? I thought I did nothing wrong?
Selena watched him stammer when he spoke. She could tell he couldn't defeat her defenses. She was just too good at it. She wasn't going to slip up now, not after how far she got. She was having way too much fun. Seeing his temper tantrum was amusing to her too. She giggled slightly to herself, so that she couldn't be heard. She didn't want Raijin to feel insulted or embarassed by her.
After seeing him apologize, sitting there in the sand, Selena thought it would be a good time to make things..."better". If she came off as nice, maybe he would stop being so suspicious. That would end her fun, but there wouldn't be any more danger. And that was the last thing Selena needed right now. She looked over to him and smiled.Yes, Raijin, I suppose I forgive you. After all, you said it yourself: This city can make someone go crazy. Maybe you should take a break from it all for a while, if that's even possible.
His name was Raijin. Defining characteristics were his bright blue eyes. He was an Aquila, with the power of electricity. He works for the police, based on how he runs around with cops. She was piecing together Raijin, little by little. It was all she needed for right now, in case she got out of her without any scars and could report this to the other Serpente.

Raijin had to think of something and he had to think of something quick. That lure was his ace, no doubt, but his electrifying brain always had some juices that held plans conjuring up. He had to play this smart though, after all, he had given out much of his information to this stranger who was suspected to be a Serpente. That really didn't worry him much, since he was impulsive and ready for anything head on. He apologized and played the act that the investigation was over. How could he investigate her, try to get her to trip over her words so he could arrest her, all the while playing it cool and casual? But he couldn't deny it, she had beat him to a y pulp mentally and all he had to go on was a wing and a prayer.
"It's not you, it's just that I'm real embarrassed about calling you a criminal and accusing you to be in league with the Serpente. I'm real sorry about that." He lied. He still had suspicions about her. The funny feeling ed but the evidence was dwindling. It seemed that she had a stable way to keep her sentences clear, calm, and collected -- the complete opposite of Raijin.
"Yeah I guess you're right. But, just because we take out Serpente members, doesn't mean that we do it for the greater good. We rather ryougans -- all ryougans -- to live together with humans, not just lumped together within the same race," Raijin said shaking his head. He sounded much more calmer, he couldn't sound aggressive or try to put her on her defense. "But with the Aquila Serpentes, I believe that the unregistered officers (Aquila), has the right to carry out justice. A mass er whose verdict was , the verdict should be carried. In the courtroom or not."
He jumped up and smirked after she said she would forgive him. On the outside, he seemed like a cheery kid who wanted to make a friend, but he being friendly just to get closer to her and to make her trip over her words. If she said anything remotely close to an affiliation to the Serpente, mistake or not, that would be reason right there. Raijin was all ears right now, deciding that she was too valuable to be left alone. He had a Serpente in the hand, waiting for her to confess.
"Yeah... this city can make your brain cells run wild. A vacation would be nice, I'm not even eighteen yet and I'm running with the police. Kinda pathetic right? Ya know, you're good company. I should treat you to the best strawberry cake in Verada when we get the chance. But at the moment, you wouldn't mind staying a while longer? I'm not ready to go home and I don't want to stay on the beach alone." He said chuckling nervously. He didn't care about staying on the beach alone -- he stopped bank robbers, burglars, people who could shoot fire from their hands -- why would he be scared of being on the beach by himself?
He waited for the answer. Selena Solister... looking at her face, listening to her voice, everything seemed so familiar. He was hanging on a wing, a prayer, and his slipping memory.

It's fine. But...why would you think I'm a Serpente anyway? You have to have a reason for it. Or are you just accusing random people, and I'm the unlucky victim? She knew this wasn't done yet, in fact it was just getting interesting. She had the upper hand, it was clearly obvious. But now he was getting angrier, even if he didn't show it. She had to be careful.
I see what you're saying, but do the Aquila have the right to carry out the act of bringing people to justice? They cannot do it. It just isn't right. Just as it is not right for the Serpente giving themselves the right to kill humans out of hatred. It was a good lie, but Selena began to think for a bit about it. Was what she doing truly right? It didn't matter much now. After bring looked down upon by humans, especially her because of her wings, gave her that hatred. The humans had no right to do that either.
The cake sounds lovely, another time though. And I really have nothing else to do tonight, so I suppose I'll stay. She looked over at Raijin, to make sure he didn't try anything. She didn't beleive he would, but she wanted to make sure. She looked over at Raijin and smiled, trying to appear as pleasant as possible. Don't like being alone? Oh come on. I think you can handle yourself. You seem pretty strong. She was teasing him a bit. But she could tell he's been through worse, being part of the police and all. It didn't matter to her though. She was only interested in defeating him in this little battle of theirs.

Raijin had to keep the act up, he thought that it was working. It appeared that she let her guard down and if he was to go back on the 'bad cop' routine or whatever he was doing before, she would probably get on the defense and things would become aggressive. That's one thing that Raijin didn't want to happen, since if he was to attack a defensless civilian that would bring unnecessary heat on the Aquila, Raijin, and the ryougan clan in general. One spark could start an inferno.
"Well," Raijin said scratching his head, trying to make this look authentic as possible. "I saw that you were a ryougan and I didn't recognize you with the Aquila. You were either in the neutral zone or Serpente, so I got paranoid and I chose the other one... heh."
"Citizen's arrest?" Raijin said shrugging. "It's a type of citizen's arrest. We are the unofficial, official ryougan police. When the regular cops can't handle it, we lend a hand. We fight along the fighters of justice, while the Serpente commit crimes for the hell of committing crimes. Call it what you want, but killing to an extent is wrong."
Raijin nodded and grabbed his stomach. Had the places not been closed, he wouldn't mind taking her there. Actually, that would prove to open up some new interrorgation scenes. But for right now, the beach was all that Raijin had to go on to trap this girl. His charm, his acting, and the beach.
He blushed a bit. "Well thanks, I can hold my own in a fight. Its you that I'm worried about. What if you get into a fight with another ryougan? You said you can handle yourself, but if your wings can't fly or anything, what defense do you have?" Raijin asked. He kept his eyes off of Selena, since straying away from a stare-down would probably lead to half-ass answers.
"Do you swim? I haven't seen you get anywhere near the water since we've been talking, the least you can do is get your toes wet, huh?" Raijin said, being a perfect friendly playmate. "And a question, Selena, hypothetical since you're not a Serpente."
Not that I can prove that you're a Serpente he thought.
"If you were to join the Serpente after our meeting or whatever, since we're friends now, would you follow their ideals and try to kill me knowing that I'm Aquila? We are friends, correct?" He asked. He would test her personality, maybe that could be a way to tick her off. He kept the gaze off of her, took his ankles from the washing waves and stepped back, waiting for the answer. Waiting for her to mess up.

Well, I suppose it is normal, being a cop. You must be very passionate about the Aquila's beleifs. You don't have to keep apologizing for it. No harm done. She smiled slightly at him. Sure there was no harm done, yet. She still hadn't lowered his guard enough. She wanted to attack him, but it wouldn't be good right now. He had to trust her enough not to. Selena didn't know how powerful he was, so she had to make sure she didn't do anything to rash.
The...unoffficial, offical ryougan police? So basically you're taking it upon yourself to eliminate the Serpente. It didn't really make any sense to her, but Selena went along with it. She didn't particularly like the idea, but that didn't concern her.Do whatever you like...the Serpente will win in the end She looked over at him rubbing his stomach. Hungry? She didn't really care, although she was getting a bit hungry. Selena didn't bring anything to eat though.
Selena laughed a bit to herself. She could handle herself if needed be. She didn't have much to worry about. Heh...oh don't worry about me. I may not look like it but I can be pretty strong. Though I just don't like to show it. It would have been stupid to tell Raijin her powers now. She knew it would hurt her later on.
She stared at Raijin for a bit. No, I don't like to swim. I usually only come out here to look at the moon. It's a much better view than in the city. More peaceful too. Selena couldn't swim anyway, not with the dress on. It would be a pain to get off, and then having to change out here in front of him. It wouldn't go well for her.
Selena smiled before giving her answer. I value bonds between people very much. I don't like to betray people I care about. Hopefully that answer was good enough for him. Sure, he was ok. That was about it, with these accusations at her. But it wasn't a lie. Selena did value bonds between people. Like between her and Zane, or the rest of the Serpente. He just didn't have to know that.

"I'm just all about upholding justice, all the while balancing a life that would be expected from a sixteen- year old, ya know? Friends, school, work, girlfriend." He said. He bit his tongue and wanted to punch himself in the ribs. Letting out all that personal information to a suspected Serpente was a recipe for disaster and Raijin wouldn't let anything happen to his allies or the person that he loved.
"Besides, would I follow the Aquila and not express their beliefs? That'd be kinda pointless, wouldn't you think... Selena...Solister?" Raijin said. He still couldn't shake her name. He was positive someone else shared the same last name that was close to her, that was at least his 'Raijin hunch' (when he feels that he is correct about something, no matter what, whether it be speculating or the latter).
Once I find out who you're related to, affiliated with, or anything that can tie you with the Serpente, you're mine!. Raijin even let out a small giggle. He nodded his head and shrugged. When wasn't he hungry? Though he wasn't particulary starving, he could eat. "Yeah, guess so. Hey, there's a snack bar on this beach right above the pier. We should get something?" He said. It was a snack bar that sold many beach treats, he had saved the manager's life before, so taking some treats from inventory and paying him back wouldn't trouble him too much.
"Really? Nobody, man or ryougan alike can defeat the almighty Raijin Kenchi, god of thunder and lightning!" He said, flexing his muscles. He had an average build for a teen; leaning close to the athlete side with noticable features, but he was still skinny and looked like he could be snapped like a twig. "As a matter of fact, I would love to see you attempt to pin me, but don't hurt yourself trying goldielocks." He winked.
Raijin jogged over to the water again, smirking. He used to hate the water since he didn't know how to swim. Though, he wasn't perfect, he was gradually learning and wasn't too shabby -- better than before.
"Swimmings good for the pecs'," He said, tapping himself in the gut. A mischeivous grin spread on his face and he took a handful of water and splashed it at Selena's direction. Raijin suspected her to be Serpente, his natural clan enemy, but still he wanted to have a playful aura for the time being. It was better to savor the thrill of wondering about a gift, rather than face the music when it was time to open it and deal with the heavy emotions.
Raijin raised his eyebrow and tapped his fingers to the water. Valued bonds between people? She didn't like to betray people she cared about, which didn't place Raijin in that category since he had suspected her of a criminal and also -- they just met. This little playtime would last for the moment, hell it even made them look like friends or old-time school-mates (despite the age gap), but it would all crumble if the tongue slipped. Preferably, hers.
"So, you still think you can take me, you wanna get some snacks, or..." Raijin said, sending water by her again. "You can get annoyed by the electric god."

You have a girlfriend? What is she like? Selena smiled, curious to know more. It might be nice to know another target, but Selena figured this guy wasn't dumb enough to tell enough about her. But she knew plenty about him as it was.
Selena raised an eyebrow as she looked at him. The way Raijin said her last name was...unsettling. Could it be that he knew something about Zane? The way you said it...Solister...is there something wrong? Is it something about my last name that troubles you?
Hmm...I suppose if you really want to eat we could. As long as it is not far away. Selena thought it would ruin the night if she had to actually walk somewhere. She wasn't lazy, just relaxing in one spot was better when staring at the stars and moon.
She laughed a little at his arrogance. Haha, don't worry. I wouldn't even waste my time. And I said don't call me that. IT annoyed her, but she was getting to be okay with it. Still, she didn't like to be called it often, it was really cheesy.
It would be too much work, with what I'm wearing. Swimming was fun sometimes, especially at night. She thought it would be a good experience, but water plus a lightning ryougan didn't seem to go together in her book.
I'm really up for anything, as long as it's not too much trouble..."thunder god" His arrogance was annoying her. Selena might have to bring him down a peg or two.

"Perfect, that can describe her. But, you realize that I can't tell you much about her, on account of the fact that we just met and all. Maybe one day you two will meet and who knows what'll happen then?" Raijin said, smirking.
Don't press your luck Solister, he thought. Selena had most of Raijin's information, however, the people that he mingled with and those extremely close to him had to be clocked out -- underneath the radar. Raijin would glady sacrifice his own well-being for the life of another person, that's why he called himself Aquila.
Instead of shaking his head and pretending like he was just saying it to get on her nerves, he actually nodded and bit his bottom lip. He wanted her to feel trapped, as if her name was the only thing from keeping her from behind a prison door.
"Actually, Solister isn't that common of a last name. Sure, there's people running around with it, but there seems to be something about you that sticks out from the rest. I investigated you earlier, I'm sorry if I made you feel insecure or worried you, however something about you didn't add up." Raijin said, stating what he had said before. Slowly, his memory began to get some juices flowing as a picture zoomed into his memory. The whole reason why he gave her the time of day.
The Aquila had posted a list of Serpente who should be approached with caution... and the last name, Solister had to be on the list! More than once too, it was more than a mere coincidence, the Solister name on the list had to match the Solister in front of him. His investigation jumped back into play and suspicions spiked, as he was more determined than ever to have her trip, giving him the move that he needed.
"No... actually, Aquila don't take without asking. We're not some dirty, underclassed bastards like a certain clan that I know." Raijin said, rolling his eyes. Insulting the Serpente clan didn't work before, but who knew how long a person could take before he...she, snapped?
"Wasting your time to fight me? Well, aren't we a cute little pacifist?" Raijin laughed. But when the time was right, preferrably before the night was over, the two would butt heads and see what the other was made of. "But I won't call you anything about your hair, hope you didn't take it the wrong way."
He walked around her, making it seem like a common teenage "checking-the-hot-chick-out" move, but all the while tried to jog his memory of her face. Until that face became clear, he relied on what he alwasys relied on.
"So, Solister, nice name. No brothers or sisters to carry the name with? Guessing you're an only child also?" Raijin asked. Getting her to spill about a relative would greatly help the investigation, he needed to coach her into saying something.
"Me personally, I would hate to have someone share my last name. What are siblings anyway, except for worthless liabilities? The younger ones is as needed as a bullet to the back. But the older ones? Living in their shadow must be a pain, only being known for their shame and achievements. "

Hmm maybe. That might be nice. So he was smarter than he looked. It might be difficult, getting any info from him now. But Selena already knew plenty about him.
Something that didn't add up? Is there something wrong with my name then? He probably was getting more suspicious, and knew who Zane was. If not, he was trying to get the info about him out of her. Like that was ever going to happen.
Selena eyed him carefully as he insulted the Serpente. You should be really glad I'm not a Serpente. Otherwise I would kill you. But I could never do that to you. She tried to make it seem like she had no connection to them, which seemed to be working. He had no real evidence of who she was anyway.
I suppose you could call me a pacifist. I really only fight when I need to. Either that, or when I really don't like someone who did something bad to me. IT didn't make her seem like a Serpente, just someone who liked to get revenge. IT was a natural emotion to feel.
She watched him as he strolled around her. It made her feel a bit uncomfortable. She recognized the question he asked from before. He was apparently trying again to see if she would slip up. No, I'm the last one. I thought I told you that already. Didn't I? She would see his reaction. If it was right, she would know if he realized who Zane was.
I dunno about that. I think it would be nice to have a sibling, especially if they cared about you a lot. IT would mean that you would always have someone there to take care of you.

"Well, I hate to put throw a disguise over my real amibition. Lightning flashes can't be hidden, they are quick and random. So, I'll come right out with it again, I was investigating you. See, I still think that you're a Serpente. When I get that feeling, it's hard for me to derive from it and I just can't stop thinking that you're my natural enemy. Your last name, your wings, your name, hell the atmosphere that you give off is just sickening. Call me stubborn or whatever, but I swear I think -- no, I know that you're not being truthful and that you're hiding your true identity." Raijin said. He smiled and cracked his knuckles and laughed.
"Ooh, I'm shaking in my boots. Like I would give the Serpente a chance to lay their hands on me? If you 'were' Serpente, what would you do with those defected wings? I wouldn't care if you're a world-class fighter, with my shocking powers, I'll prove that lightning can strike in the same place, more than once!" Raijin boasted. All this acting, mental-tongue challenging was getting to him. It was like she was insulting him, insulting his intellegence.
"Revenge, flat out. Who doesn't want revenge once in a while? Even Aquila has vengence, but I really doubt that you can do anything during a battle. Especially against the almighty Aquila, they would have your number in a few short minutes -- no, seconds!" He insulted. That flare was back in him, the flare that he needed to push this girl.
He rolled his eyes and spat in the sand. "Whatever Solister, if you are Serpente, then you're hiding somebody. If you're hiding somebody, then he or she will be found and you'll both be sitting in a cell until they figure out what to do with you both... or there could be more of you guys running around. What if there's more Solisters who are Serpente? A manhunt for them, a litter just running around Verada like lost puppies." Raijin said. He would be digging himself a grave, but with this sudden confidence he felt invincible. "But, the person you're hiding must be weak, having to have someone cover his identity."
He nodded. "Someone there to take care of you huh? So, who would be there in your corner to protect you if one of us lost his mind?" Raijin said, pacing. Popping another idea into his head, he would scare the confession out of her. Why didn't he think of that before?
"Solister, drop the act. If you're Serpente, I give you my word that I'll try to get a sentence lifted from the death penalty for you, I'll say you came willingly. But, what if things got... violent? I'd have the right to protect myself, and if the cops discover your... *coughs* 'fried' body and somehow trace it to the Serpente clan, then the murder... or murderer wouldn't get any face time on the News or investigation." Raijin had to admit, that wasn't an Aquila-like thing to say, though he didn't really mean it. He only killed if it was highly inavoidable or sudden lives were at stake.
"We've established you're not Aquila, but you're ryougan. They see the wings, they would automatically know what they were dealing with and leave it alone. Hell, even human murders wouldn't seem that out of place. But, if for some reason you actually were innocent, then... heh, it would be considered as another ryougan/Verada murder. Or... better yet," Raijin said holding his forehead. He couldn't believe what he was saying, but anything to get her scared. "They still wouldn't be able to trace the murder to me. Simply put, you need a body to do forensics and open a case, and why would I be stupid enough to let the cops play operation on a dead body? If it meant taking a body and being cut from the Aquila and police, then at least I knew that I was right."
He popped his bright-blue eyes and exhaled. That was sick, but it had to be done. Electricity sizzled around his arm and straight to his finger which was pointed at her hair. A small zap strong enough to frizz it jumped from his finger to her hair leaving Raijin smiling. He was a prankster and that didn't count as a death threat or assault. That was just abusing his power.
"So, what's your choice Solister[/I]: Take the smart, painless route? Or be carried there with your body temporarily paralyzed from immense electric shock? We can do this all night till the sun comes up, but who knows who will lose their sanity by then? Like we agreed on, this city can make you do some crazy ass things."

Does it really matter what your hunches tell you? She stood up to face him, now being prepared to do anything. He was getting angrier. And Selena couldn't let her guard down now more than ever. You still have no concrete proof that I am a Serpente. And I'm not going to admit to something I'm not. She was lying, but as long as she kept her cool, it should be fine.
She eyed him carefully. Someone's a bit overconfident aren't we? I don't think you're weak. But you're starting to seem like a jerk. Please try to calm down. It was annoying her, but if he thought she couldn't fight, she would have that advantage later on if they did fight.
AT his comment she put her hand onn her dress and gripped, hard. She was in pain from her nails digging into her skin, but didn't show it. It made Selena enraged to hear this man...this Aquila...call Zane of all people weak.Look, I'm telling you, I have no one else to hide. It's just me. Why can't you just accept that? She let go of her grip. She was able to calm down, for now. She didnt know how much more she could take.
What are you talking about? I'm not afraid or anything. I told you that already. Was he trying to scare her? He really was starting to lose his mind. He was getting dangerous, but maybe Selena could use his anger to her advantage. That is, if he didn't go berserk and kill her.
Selena couldn't beleive what he was hearing. Raijin was supposed to be an Aquila, but he acted more like a Serpente. Listen to yourself. You're talking about killing me and nobody finding me. About how you can kill me, without any evidence, and not even caring. That's what a Serpente would say, not an Aquila. Think about this for a moment at least. You're going a bit too far don't you think? She knew that it probably wouldn't work, and that Serpente comment would probably push him over the edge. But it was all she had and Selena just had to go with it. Besides...if I was to die here...it's not as it my death would go unnoticed. I have friends at least. They would know I'm gone if I don't appear for a while. It was true that someone would find her, but that someone would be Zane. She figured he would assume she was murdered by an Aquila and probe all their minds to find Raijin and then kill him. It was a good plan, even if it caused her to die.
She felt a shock run through her body. Not a large one, just enough though. It didn't bother her. She still kept her resolve. Any sign of weakness and Raijin would jump at it.Do you really think you can harass me like this? I know my rights as a citizen of Verada. Innocent until proven guilty and all that? You have no proof of me being a Serpente. It isn't good behavior of a so called law officer. If other people at the police station heard about what you're doing right now, what would they think. What would the Aquila think if they find out you've been harassing innocent ryougan? It just isn't good behavior. Think about it for a moment.
I don't know which way to go. They both sound so exciting. She wasn't going to just give up. He still had no confession. He had no proof to tie her to the Serpente. That was all Selena needed to keep denying who she really was.I dont know about losing my mind. I'm perfectly fine. It's you who I'm more worried about.

Raijin felt like a totally different person, he was hating this technique that he was using to lure Selena from the lie that he thought she was telling. He couldn't see himself using his powers to schokc the living daylights out of her, unless if he was provoked and if the situation seemed dire. Still, he couldn't let her know that: that would just show her that he was reluctant to kill and that he could be taken advantage of. That would exploit weakness from him, and that was something that he couldn't afford to show now. This plot was working, he just had to push a little longer... go forth a little harder...
"My hunches are 100% correct! When I'm set to something, I go at it. That's how determined I am and that's why I won't let go of the fact that you're just another Serpente, but you're unlike any Serpente that I've met. You're scared of something, scared of me, which is why you won't admit on who you are. A natural reaction; I'd be scared of myself too."
Her words hit him, making him want to gag on what he had been saying earlier. He hadn't been called a jerk since freshman year of high school where he had been viciously pounding on a senior bully, just to get the attention of the apple of his eye. Ironically, that apple was the one that called him a jerk. Hearing it from Selena, a suspect Serpente, didn't have the same effect as it did before those years ago, but it awoke some old demons. It jolted him, showing that his actions and words were truely that against Aquila morals. "Don't worry about me," He spat out. "I'm calm."
"If you're not hiding anybody, why are you putting your dress in a vice grip? You should be concerned with yourself, I'm giving you the chance of the lifetime to give me a name. If you're hiding someone and they did crimes ten times worse than what you've ever thought of doing, then you'll be penalized for it as well! Are you really that bent on hiding this person, or are you really all alone in this world?"
Raijin had to turn away from Selena this time, hearing her lay the truth on the line was just heartbreaking. Raijin thought that he would never have to resort to death threats in order to uphold justice and the Aquila standards. He felt like absolute crap, he couldn't focus or anything. He wiped his eye and bit his bottom lip. If she saw him in this state, she would get the feeling that this was all an act... which would in turn give her more advantages over him than she needed.
Defeat the Serpente clan, protect our human bretheren... That was what he was told when he first joined the Aquila clan.
Swear to uphold justice and fight in the name of the law, by any means necessary... Was a line from the oath that he had taken when he spoke to the Verada police commissioner.
Everybody deserves a fair trial; a chance to prove themselves. Defend the innocent, by any means necessary... that was Raijin's code. He would live by that code, and die by that code. He gave his word that he would protect this girl if she would willingly come. If sparks didn't fly and she was truely innocent, things would turn out differently.
He sighed heavily and shook his head. Could this be one of those times when his hunches were wrong? Not when everything was going so well, not when he had her! The Aquila, sane side of him was screaming to break down and leave the beach, leaving her to get caught by the police on other terms. But, Raijin was feeling too full of himself to hear that side.
"You know your rights as a Verada citizen right? In a place like Verada, who is going to enforce those rights to the fullest? I work for the police and everyday I see corruption and things that is unethical, well to a cop anyway. I'm one of those trusted police officers, and that display that you saw was a small tidbit on what could happen if you got an officer of the law pissed off. Good behavior? Good behavior?" He chuckled, then sighed again. He looked up at the night sky and shook his head.
"I know." Raijin sighed. He turned to her and tapped his chin, sucking on his tooth. "Ya know, you are really wound up to this. I'm giving you the chance of a lifetime here! Who else is on this beach besides you and me? Tell me right now, are you still going to stick to this? You may not know me, but I'm one of those trustworthy ones that can offer you support. You just have to take that leap of faith, you can end the charade and secure your future... or we can continue this mental tennis match."
"I was wrong to push you, now I'm giving you the choice. Selena, it's your choice. Are you Serpente?

Selena stood and faced him. He was more confident now, a bit arrogant even. I'm scared? I wouldn't call it scared at all. You dont seem like a scary person. He thought he was so great. She thought he was full of himself a little.
Selena was unsure of how to answer. She had to think fast though, or else he would get suspicious again. I'm just uncomfortable that's all. Anyone would be too, with these accusations coming at them. And I already told you, I'm not hiding anyone. She was getting a bit annoyed by these questions now. She tried to get him to stop but he just kept coming.
Seeing him finally realize that what he said wasn't the best thing to say made her feel better. He probably would stop now, hopefully. Or at the least stop being so forceful with the questions and accusations. But Selena couldn't let her guard down just yet. If something like this happened again in this conversation, she needed to be ready.
Hearing his words about corruption made her think for a moment. Was it really the best thing to do to give up now? She couldn't, not when she had come so far. She could handle herself if she did get caught. She had a way of charming others and getting out of certain situatons by blinding and fleeing. Plus, Zane would be there too to help her out if needed. She didn't really care about what he had to say. She knew she could handle herself.
Look, I told you already. I'm not hiding anything. I'm not a Serpente. And you trying to prove that I am hasn't gotten anywhere. And can I really trust someone who doesn't trust me at all because of some hunch? Her words hopefully got him to question himself, and through that she would maybe be able to force him to consider her innocent. If that happened, she was home free.
Like I said, I am not a Serpente. I'm not going to lie just to make you beleive your hunch is right.

Raijin's face dropped a little after being told he wasn't scary. It was a flick of the middle finger to his little act, but it did give him some relief that he wasn't causing any damage to this girl. What kind of Aquila would he be if he was going to be a person that couldn't be trusted but had a huge amount of power? Well, he would be classified as the same dirt as many of Verada's cops, politicians, etc. Raijin wanted to stay as far away from that classification as possible.
"Yeah, you're right. I understand how you would feel with all this unneeded pressure set down on you. After all, you're a couple years older than me so you're still young... wait... that was a compliment, I think." Raijin wondered, biting his tongue. His foster mother had always told him that he had to be respectable to women, that was one rule in life that he tried to follow without sounding too perverted at attempting.
Raijin had bowed his head down in shame. She wasn't giving up her act... or maybe it wasn't an act? Raijin never thought that his hunches were wrong, they couldn't be wrong. They had gotten him so many busts in the past and saved his life countless times, this instance didn't feel that different from the others. But, unfortunately, even the best cop got rusty under pressure. Raijin was coming to terms with reality, though hard to do, would accept the fact that she wasn't who he accused her of being. He was embarrassed beyond belief, it was just too much for him to comprehend. This poor girl, his actions could make her terrified of police and would probably turn her against her own race. If she wasn't a Serpente now, his actions could provoke it.
It was one thing accusing someone, it was something worse to make them turn into their enemy. That kind of guilt, that shame would put Raijin in a set of depression. He looked at her and wiped one of his eyes and pretended a yawn, trying to make it seem as though he was tired.
"I understand what you mean, Sol-- Selena. What I did was opposite what any cop, Aquila, or person should act like. You must hate me and all authority now, don't you? Well, I have something I have to tell you before we part ways," Raijin said messing around with his hair. "The Aquila are peacekeepers. We're not trying to make ryougans with different views go to prison and get their head on the chopping block, no we want ryougans and humans to co-exist with each other, together."
Raijin placed a finger up and zapped lightning into the sky, giving a small sizzle of light in the dark sky. He moved closer to the shore and motioned for her follow. "This world is huge and if we can show the others that the Serpente and Aquila can settle their differences, the wall will be removed and we can share this world together. Hell, we can be far away from each other as possible, as long as we co-exist and live in happiness, right?"
Raijin spat in the ocean and looked at Selena. "I apologize deeply if I insulted you. And if you are hiding someone, my apologies are sent to them, OK? But, if you are Serpente, then you can't be all bad, right? After all, if you have my name, power, and my affiliation, then you would surely retaliate. In return, if you ever get in a bind, remember Raijin Kenchi. One of the trustworthy people still left in Verada."
He laughed and zapped into the sky again, looking at Selena. "So, friends? Acquaintances? We are stuck in the same city, so there's a chance that we'll run into each other again, right?"
